When I was in college (a while back, but who’s counting?), I had two ways to communicate with the folks back home.

The Internet is the most powerful and versatile communications tool in the history of the human race. It’s totally transforming the way companies do business.

I say all this to convince you beyond a doubt that you want to take your network marketing business online. You NEED your own Website to generate an ongoing stream of enthusiastic, pre-qualified prospects.

So what’s stopping you from building your own site? Here are five common myths that deter many people.

1. IT’S GOING TO COST ME AN ARM AND A LEG.

We’ve all heard of someone who paid a professional thousands of dollars to build a site for them. Most people just don’t have that kind of money to invest when they’re starting out.

But there IS another option that will cost you a tiny fraction of that: Build it yourself. (No, no. Stop laughing.)

And that brings up the next misconception.

2. THERE’S NO WAY I CAN BUILD A WEBSITE MYSELF – I HAVE NO COMPUTER SKILLS.

This is what I used to think, too. Then I discovered dozens of Web hosting services that make it a snap for small businesses to do it themselves.

It’s no longer necessary to know computer programming or html code. If you can send emails, surf the Internet, and type letters in your word processing program, you can build a Website.

I did it — so can you.

3. I’D HAVE TO SPEND A MOUNTAIN OF MONEY ON ADVERTISING IF I WANTED TO GET ANY VISITORS.

This is another misconception I used to believe, as well. I was stuck in old-school thinking.

But I’m happy to report that there are many effective ways to promote a Website that don’t cost a dime, and some of them will give you even better results than traditional advertising.

4. MY COMPANY PROVIDES ME WITH A FREE WEBSITE – I DON’T NEED MY OWN INDEPENDENT SITE.

If you’re thinking this way, I have a question for you:

How many other distributors have sites just like yours? Probably a few thousand, right? These are called “replicated sites,” and search engines will totally ignore them because they clog up their systems.

It’s fine if you want to send people to your replicated site for information about your company or products, but it will not generate any new leads for you. And leads are the lifeblood of your business.

5. I CAN’T HAVE MY OWN SITE – MY COMPANY WON’T ALLOW IT.

Most network marketing companies do restrict what their distributors can and cannot say about them, which is understandable. This may include bans on personal websites that pitch the company or its products or services.

But this doesn’t have to be a problem for you.

There are still many ways you can use a Website to generate leads without mentioning your particular company or brand name. In fact, your site will be even more effective if you do it this way.

Why? Think about your own preferences. Which would you rather visit – a site that tries to sell you something or a site that simply gives you lots of useful information about a problem you’re trying to solve?

Which site owner are you more likely to trust and want to connect with? Who are you going to perceive as the expert?

Here’s an example: Suppose your company sells non-toxic cleaning products. Your site might offer cleaning tips to get housework done faster, scientific reports on the dangers of common commercial cleaners, and your own personal story of why you got interested in non-toxic cleaning products. Just don’t mention your company or any of its brand names.

You’ll attract like-minded people and develop a relationship of trust with them. And without a doubt, some of your readers will turn into customers or business partners.

The most important thing that I can show you today is that the only thing you should be marketing– is you.

I hate to tell you this, but nobody cares about your company, your products, or your compensation plan.

People are looking for a leader. And you need to become that leader if you want to really succeed in this industry.

If you don’t want to become a leader, then maybe this is not your road, because serious network marketing success is all about leadership.

Do what ever you need to do to become a solid leader. It does not happen overnight, but start working on it today. Plug into personal development, your company’s training, whatever it takes to become a leader up in your head first.

But until that happens, your income is going to reflect that level of mindset on where you stand as a leader and how much value you provide to your prospects and the industry as a whole.

Until you can educate yourself, learn to market yourself, and provide value, you are just not going to make it as a professional in this industry.

You have to step up to the plate and be a leader if you are an entrepreneur, ready to take action to make serious money. You want the people who are following you to be successful. People will only do what you have done. You have to lead by example.

So who are you being? That is the #1 question. What kind of leader are you? Would you get started with you if you found yourself on on the Internet? By the end of the year you will have 3,650 one way links to your website(365 X 10). This will be one of the many factors that will determine your search engine ranking. Read a few books on SEO before getting started.

Network Marketing Tools #5: Ad Tracking Software.

Your job as a network marketer is to get quality traffic at the least cost possible. If your not tracking your ads you don’t know what advertising is bringing in money and which is costing you money.

Track everything whether it be articles, PPC, or ezine advertising. By tracking your marketing you can increase the amount of money for the advertisements that are bringing in the dough and shut off the ones that are stealing your money. Tracking software is a must have.

It is common to assume that you want to advertise to get leads or prospects to look into your network marketing program and potentially have these prospects join your organization.

What is not commonly known to most networkers is that they can maximize the effectiveness of their advertising dollars by getting their money back either when their prospects join or do not join their program.

While this method can easily be done online, you can find a way to do it offline as well.

For the sake of this example, let’s assume that you have an online MLM to start with.

1. Your network marketing program as a back-end profit

Your intention is to quickly recoup your advertising cost before your prospects even take a look at your network marketing program.

You can do this by selling quality infoproduct, such as an ebook – educating your prospects about network marketing in particular or the products or services your network marketing company has to offer.

For example, if your prospects are internet marketers, it makes sense to tell them how internet marketing and network marketing can work together hand-in-hand nicely to further increase their income. If they have not looked into network marketing yet, it could be their big mistake as network marketing industry is not the same as it was before ten years ago.

So, creating an ebook about the topic above will probably be a good choice to introduce network marketing concept to internet marketers in general. Then, make sure you suggest a company (your network marketing company) for them to check out.

In this case, you already made upfront profit from selling your ebook, and if your customers join your network marketing program, it will be a bonus residual income for you.

What if you couldn’t create an ebook?

Try creating an e-course or starting a newsletter. Then, charge a small fee for your e-course or newsletter subscription. That will work too.

2. Your network marketing program as a front-end profit

This is a direct approach with a little twist.

You advertise your online network marketing program but before you let your prospects know more about your products or services, make sure you get their contact information first.

Their contact information could be their names, emails and phone numbers.

Then, get this information into your autoresponder or your mailing list software.

While introducing your MLM program to your prospects, your autoresponder can do an automatic follow up with your prospects.

After mailing your prospects 7 or 8 times, your prospects would either drop off from your mailing list, join your network marketing program or are not interested to join but want to keep in touch with you.

This is when you’ll introduce complementary products to your MLM business.

For example, you can inform your prospects that they can build a website to do prospecting or simply to sell something on the internet.

If your prospects are network marketers in different companies, they will be interested to know how to effectively find prospects online. If your prospects are those who look for a way to make money online, your resource will be helpful to them too. Either way, you have both covered and you’ll get commissions from every sale you recommend the complementary product.

At the same time, you still want to mention your MLM program in case they change their minds and join you in the future.

For your information, these are the two strategies that have been used by many top network marketers to make sure that they will always be in a win-win-win situation.

Now that you have this knowledge, go out and apply either one or both strategies. Of course, there are pros and cons to doing everything. So, check with your upline if these ideas might bring more success to your team.
